Home

Hi! Somehow you’ve reached my site. Welcome. I’m Bob Hacker, I currently work as a Sr. Tech Lead for the biggest mutual fund company in the world. I’ve been building or managing the building of systems for quite some time. I’ve worked in the embedded world, the mini-computer (showing my age with that term) world and the mainframe world. Today I spend most of my time in the LAMP world. And have worked on systems from Supply Chain to Missile Range Communication Switches to e-commerce to currently my company’s home grown tools team.

The purpose of this site is to share with you some of the things I’m interested in. Programming, biking (the pedal kind) and Texas Hold’em. I’m doing this as much for me to remember things I’ve done and am proud of, as it is to share with you.

I’m one of those lucky people who gets to do what he loves and get paid to do it. Currently I spend a lot of time writing code in Perl and PHP. Though I enjoy writing C, Java and VB.Net.

I also enjoy playing Texas Hold’em from time to time. It’s a simple game yet the approaches to a given hand are endless. On this site I’ll be combining my interest in Hold’em with my programming skills to show hand probabilities and compare and contrast different programming languages (C, Java, Perl, PHP and VB.Net). At the same time show you a performance study comparing these languages.

When it’s warm out I like to spend a lot of time riding (currently I ride a Cannondale Synapse Disc 5 105 road bike). I’m slow (one too many slices of pizza is the probable cause) but can’t get enough time on the road. I use my iPhone as the ultimate bike computer I’ve tried different bike computers but have settled on Cyclemeter Elite as a great app that lets my phone give you all the functionality of any dedicated bike computer that I’ve tried.

I hope you enjoy the site and find out something you didn’t know before. Comments are welcome.

Thanks for visiting,

Bob
